WE'RE BUILDING RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES WITH IDEALS THAT WE CAN ALL LIVE WITH

AN OPEN LETTER

Dear Fellow Human,

Where and how you live makes a huge impact on your life. It starts, and it ends, at home. Home is where you re-charge – more than just your cellphone and laptop. Home is safe. Home needs to be safe because that’s where you keep…not just your love. Home is cozy. Your home should fit you like a onesie – the kind with feet. Your home should be the place where you dream of things other than a better home.

Imagine back to the comfort of your childhood bedroom. Your bedroom was your domain, your space, more your womb than your room – it was within a residence, but your bedroom was yours, and it was all you needed in the world. As we fast forward into adulthood, we subconsciously long for, and attempt to recreate that familiar comfort within rented apartments, and starter homes that we don’t even really like very much.

So we started to think about how we live, and we started speaking to people about how they live. Individually and collectively. Online and offline. And we learned a few things that we just can’t un-learn. The negative effects of being unhappy with your home are overwhelmingly dangerous to your well-being, and create added stress to your life. The real estate market has put us in boxes, literally, figuratively – boxes that do not suit our needs, but only our budgets. The existing process and entire economic model for residential housing is skewed, over-inflated, and flat out archaic. The end result is high rent, for space we don’t even need, while creating equity and personal wealth for your landlord rather than yourself. There are close to zero options when looking to buy a really cool house, for a great price, while also being located in a safe and central location. Think of all the different vehicles available to suit the needs of consumers in the automobile industry, an industry that provides true and wide choice to the consumer. Buying a sharp-looking, economical vehicle, featuring modern luxury and creature comforts, is not usually a decision based on someone’s personal wealth, but more the level of fiscal and social responsibility. The residential housing industry is the complete opposite, as the economically minded home buyer, searching for a sharp-looking, economical home, featuring modern luxury and creature comforts is just not available at a price that makes any sense at all – especially not in a safe and centrally located area. We, as a people need to get back to basics by understanding how large of a home we actually need, rather than the space we are offered within our budget.

We founded DOT.COMMUNITY from the ground up, by first focussing on making a positive impact on peoples lives by changing the way people live. It shouldn’t matter how much money you have in your bank account, it should only matter how much space and the configuration and options that you require to make you happy, comfortable and a proud homeowner, in a safe, secure, and desirable area. One for all, all for one, and one for one – for every home sold in a DOT.COMMUNITY development, we will donate a tiny shelter for a person in need. But it goes further than that. There is the old adage about teaching a man to fish, rather than just giving him food. Building a home follows the same principals as rebuilding a life – if we’re going to make a difference, we must start from the ground up. Working with local organizations and municipal agencies, the recipients of the donated tiny shelters are trained on how to build their own shelters from a pre-fabricated kit shipped to the shelter site. This is the foundation of this person’s life. Physically elevating one’s life from the ground up, by building their own shelter and learning a skill. A skill which they will use to earn money training others who are at the ground level of rebuilding their lives.

For the first time in history, those with great resources and those with less, share with each other a multitude of commonalities. Acceptance and open-mindedness towards others, awareness and conservation of our natural resources – these principals bind us together as human beings, no matter our current monetary net worth. Join us as we tear down the pre-historic residential housing market infrastructure, and rebuild the quality of life for all.

Respectfully yours,

Foxtrot Alpha

For your health & safety, each DOT.COMMUNITY home is equipped with advanced water filtration system.

UNFILTERED TAP WATER IS DISGUSTING. PERIOD.

DOT.COMMUNITY in-home purification systems remove 99.9% of contaminants from your home water supply.

The tabs represent toxins commonly found in your public water supply.

NO INFORMED PERSON WOULD WILLINGLY DRINK OR RUB THESE CHEMICALS ON THEIR TEETH AND BODY

Lead is the main toxin causing problems in Flint. Corroded pipes are releasing up to ten times the allowable amount of lead into the water. Lead is toxic to almost every organ and affects children the worst. Developmental issues, stunted growth, deafness, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, and brain damage can all result from exposure to lead.[5] If ingested during pregnancy, lead can cause premature birth.[6] Lead exposure has even been linked to autism, prostate cancer, and reproductive problems for both men and women.[7] It’s damaging to the cardiovascular system and kidneys, too.

Although mercury is a naturally occurring element, “natural” does not mean “safe.” Mercury is extremely toxic and can cause brain damage, blindness, nerve damage, cognitive disability, impairment of motor functions, headaches, weakness, muscle atrophy, tremors, mood swings, memory loss, and skin rashes.

Arsenic, despite being poisonous, is used in a multitude of industrial processes. Environmental contamination may result from improper waste disposal, or from poorly-planned wells that hit a natural source.[12]

Arsenic poisoning can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and even death in severe cases. Long-term exposure can lead to skin cancer, lung cancer, and bladder cancer. In Taiwan, arsenic causes “blackfoot disease,” a type of gangrene that causes blood vessels to die and rot.[12]

Chlorine has disinfectant properties that make it useful for cleaning products and swimming pools. It’s even used to sanitize sewage and industrial waste. Chlorine is added to drinking water as a purification technique, despite not being completely safe.[2]

PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, are chemicals used for industrial purposes such as insulation, machinery, oil, paints, adhesives, electronics, and fluorescent lights.

Although PCBs were banned in 1979, they’re still present in landfills and pose a danger to the environment. PCBs break down slowly and infiltrate the environment. They have been found in snow and sea water thousands of miles from where they were produced.[10]

Animal tests have found PCBs to cause cancer and negatively affect the immune, reproductive, nervous, and endocrine systems.[11]

Perchlorates are a key ingredient in rocket fuel and explosives. They dissolve easily and seep into groundwater from military and industrial sites. It’s believed that perchlorates have contaminated much of the Colorado river.[13] The problem is severe; almost all humans will test positive for perchlorates, which attack the thyroid.

Dioxins are released during combustion, such as burning of hazardous waste, forest fires, cigarette smoke, and burning oil and coal. They settle in the environment and destroy water sources.[14]

Short term exposure can cause lesions and respiratory problems. Long-term exposure can affect the immune, nervous, endocrine, and reproductive systems. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has declared dioxins are carcinogenic. In developing fetuses, dioxin poisoning can cause birth defects or stillbirth.[15]

DDT (Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane) was used as an insecticide in the 1940s to combat insect-borne diseases like malaria and typhus. It had widespread use as an agricultural insecticide until it was banned in the United States in 1972 due to environmental concerns.[16]

It remains in use in other parts of the world and is still a major health concern for all of us. DDT molecules are persistent and can travel vast distances in the atmosphere.[17]

Animal testing has found DDT causes reproductive problems and liver damage. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has declared DDT is a cancer risk.[18]

Until 1965, HCB, or Hexachlorobenzene, was used as a pesticide. Production has been banned, but it is still formed as a byproduct from the production of other chemicals. A large dose can result in death. Smaller doses can lead to liver disease and skin lesions. The EPA has classified HCB as a probable cancer source.[19]

In Anatolia, Turkey in the late 1950’s, over 4500 people suffered HCB poisoning as a result of tainted grain. Over 500 people died, including children. 30 years later, follow-up studies found that the breast milk of women in the area still contained up to 150 times the amount of HCB allowed in cow’s milk.[20]

Adding fluoride to drinking water is a process that began back in the 1940’s to help reduce tooth decay. It sounds like a noble cause but fluoride is a neurotoxin and an endocrine disruptor. It can harm the thyroid gland and calcify the pineal gland. It’s so toxic that several countries have banned water fluoridation. Even some U.S. cities have caught on and started rejecting the process of fluoridation.[1]

Dacthal (dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate, or DCPA) is an herbicide that contaminates soil and water sources. Unlike HBA and DDT, Dacthal is still in use today. Animal tests have found dacthal damages the adrenal glands, kidneys, liver, thyroid, and spleen.[21][22]

MtBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether) is a gasoline additive that can render large quantities of groundwater completely undrinkable. In 1996, the city of Santa Monica, CA found this out the hard way and the city had to shut down 50% of its water supply and pay for replacement water.[23]

The health effects of MtBE are not understood. Animal tests have linked it to kidney damage, seizures, and problems with fetal development.[24]

There’s no doubt about it, pharmaceuticals are being detected in the environment and there is genuine concern that these compounds, in the small concentrations that they’re at, could be causing impacts to human health or to aquatic organisms.

Just the facts.

THIS IS GROSS

Recent analyses of municipal drinking water have shown that, despite government regulations, there are still many dangerous contaminants present in our water. This is noted even after it has gone through municipal water treatment facilities. In fact, these water treatment facilities often actually contribute to the problem. They add dangerous chemicals to water as part of the treatment process. These chemicals include fluoride and chlorine. The water regulations and treatment methods used in the U.S. are old and outdated. They do little to address the assortment of toxic chemicals that are currently present in our environment. The Safe Drinking Water Act only regulates 91 potential water contaminants. Yet there are more than 60,000 chemicals used within the U.S., many of which have been identified as probable carcinogens. According to some estimates, there are now more than 2,100 known chemical toxins present in U.S. tap water. Additionally, many municipalities transport their water in antiquated, corroded pipes. This process may leach toxic heavy metals into the water after it has been treated.
